General Information
Living in the country has its advantages and disadvantages. If you are moving to a rural area, it’s important that you know what to expect or not expect. Every rural municipality is different so it’s important that you contact your RM office.
Agriculture
The RM of Connaught is primarily agriculture activity. Farming operations may occur around the clock and can create noise, dust and extra traffic.
Permits
Development and building permits are required. Consult the BYLAWS tab for more information.
Permits are not required for burning, but you do need to register your burn with the Controlled Burn Hotline at 1-866-404-4911
Snow Removal
It is your responsibility to have a method for removing snow from your yard and lane. Graders cannot lift the plow when plowing roads, so your lane will receive a ridge. Operators do their best to minimize the ridge, but it cannot be avoided. On an average snowfall event, it takes 2 days to completely clear all roads. It is important that during the winter months you have the necessary items to be storm stayed for a day or two.
Weeds
As a landowner, you are responsible to control and if possible, eradicate noxious weeds growing on your lands.
If you have noxious or prohibited weeds, contract the office, as there may be fundidng available for controlling them.
Landfill
The Town of Tisdale Landfill is available for use by rural residents. Fees are charged. You must plan for you own garbage removal.
Dust
Travel on rural gravel roads and surrounding farming operations will cause dust. If you want to apply dust control, contact the office for road prep prior to application. If the dust control section becomes rough or hazardous, the municipality has the right to blade through it to ensure it remains safe for traffic.
Animals
Pets and farm animals are to remain on your property.
Water & Sewer
Water and sewer set up and maintenance are the responsibility of the landowner. There are no municipal utilities. Options for water may be dugout, well or rural pipeline.
